Creating new opportunities.
Portfolio for Texas High School Journalist of the Year
I know I’m supposed to be selling myself as a journalist, but I can’t do that without talking about Ben Adams – the entrepreneur.
My entrepreneurial spirit gave me my first opportunity as a journalist, and in many of the same ways, allowed me to achieve the biggest accomplishment of my journalistic career.
For me, being a journalist is just being an entrepreneurial storyteller. Whether it’s driving miles or waiting hours to get an interview, completely turning the direction of a story around when necessary or resolving issues among staff members – the willingness to overcome hardship is crucial.
Journalism has allowed me to explore topics I’m passionate about (and some I’m not,) write columns that make some of my most important life decisions, and share a remarkable story with anyone willing to pick up a paper or enter a website URL.
Many around campus know me as “the guy who started a middle school paper” or “the journalism website dude.” I could not be more appreciative of these titles. However, I do hope soon they will know me as Ben Adams, “Journalist of the Year.”
